@SpacePootler @CASHcampaigners @cathasach4bikes @EalingIndys @EalingOne It deems like, despite your initial spreading of false information, we have some common ground and empathy. We want the poisoning from the gasworks to end. We want less traffic, safer streets, cleaner air. We need to bring people together to achieve this.

Read more@SpacePootler @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne You’re misreading and misunderstanding what I said. I don’t care ONLY because I live next door (although that was certainly the original motivating factor). I disagree that ending pollution from the gasworks would be undemocratic.

Read more@SpacePootler @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne I’m against poisoning people in their own homes, including me. You’re trying to say that if I only oppose being poisoned in my own home (as well as opposing my friends and neighbours being poisoned in their homes), then I’m undemocratic for not opposing poisoning elsewhere?
Read more@SpacePootler @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne You were the one who suggested it. I said I don’t know how it would work. But clearly similar local principles would need to apply.

Read more@Hillarymark @SpacePootler @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne Ealing Labour had an election mandate to implement LTNs, and they could have laid the groundwork to do so and bring people with them. Surely that would have been a better way to do it? We had a two week ‘consultation’ here before our local HTN was introduced.
Read more@SpacePootler @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne I don’t think we’re really comparing like with like. We’re being gassed in our own homes to increase the already massive profits of a megarich corporation.
Read more@Hillarymark @SpacePootler @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne I guess one difference is that the 20mph limit doesn’t prevent people droving down certain roads.
Read more@SpacePootler @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne The poisoning from the gasworks is additive to the pollution we get from traffic. It could have been done safely, but political and financial decisions were made not to.
Read more@SpacePootler @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne Not in their current form and implementation. A borough-wide, London-wide LTN would be fairer, but I don’t know how it would work in practice.
Read more@SpacePootler @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne How could that be undemocratic?
Read more@SpacePootler @Hillarymark @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne I’m asking why LTNs weren’t introduced where there is greatest need? Why is Southall ignored and treated poorly compared to other parts of Ealing? These are political decisions. Anti-democratic. Anti-justice.
Read more@SpacePootler @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne I’m most definitely not on Peter Mason’s side, no. Haha!
Read more@SpacePootler @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne I’m not against the construction in itself, but I am against being poisoned because I happen to live next door.

Read more@SpacePootler @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne He wrote Ealing Labour’s 2018 election manifesto with the promise to implement LTNs. They failed to do anything about it, until his predecessor Bell saw an opportunity to ‘take advantage of covid’ to get central government funding.
Read more@SpacePootler @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne The powers that were (Johnson as Mayor of London) instituted a non-democratic measure to allow development of the gasworks site in 2010, against the democratic decision of Ealing Council and the Southall community. So, in this instance, yes.
Read more@SpacePootler @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne Have you been to Southall? My ward councillor Peter Mason has consistently refused to help us and instead accepted hospitality from the developers who are poisoning us. I hear he’s also involved in the LTN fiasco?

Read more@SpacePootler @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne We’ll have to agree to disagree on that. The issue is not with LTNs, but the anti-democratic way they have been imposed. Who doesn’t want cleaner air, safer streets etc.? Why aren’t there LTNs in Southall, the area with greatest need?
Read more@SpacePootler @cathasach4bikes @CASHcampaigners @EalingIndys @EalingOne Your LTN is my HTN. The boundary lines are the dividing lines, and that’s exactly what has happened. I know there’s disputes over air quality data, traffic and ‘active travel’ data, but that’s also been part of the problem. Should have bern proper baseline data to compare.
